(Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice shirt) Nearly three years have passed since Superman’s epic conflict with Zod wreaked havoc on Metropolis. Many people, even crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne, felt outraged and helpless as a result of the casualties and collateral damage. As the cunning Lex Luthor begins his own battle against the Man of Steel, Batman, convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, undertakes his own personal vengeance to destroy his rule on Earth.
While Clark Kent’s burial is held in Smallville with Father Daniel Leone officiating and Pete Ross and Lana Lang in attendance, Superman is given a symbolic funeral in Heroes Park in Metropolis with an empty casket. At Martha’s house, a post-event gathering is held. When Martha walks in, Lois is in Clark’s bedroom. She hands Lois a letter in which she informs her that Clark had intended to pop the question.
Bruce and Diana continue their debate about uniting the other metahumans in case a threat of that magnitude ever materializes as they are still at the grave, paying tribute to Superman’s valiant sacrifice. Diana doubts the need and the motivation behind Bruce’s suggestion. He responds that it’s just his perception that things would certainly become worse.
Then, a picture of Clark’s coffin is displayed, with a handful of soil that Lois had thrown on it starting to rise into the air, suggesting that Superman might still be alive.
