“We are focused on reducing pricing across the board,” says 343’s head of design.
When the free-to-play multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite launched last year, players weren’t very excited about its microtransactions. Cosmetics seem expensive, and the standard customization options in previous Halo games are locked behind paywalls. While cosmetic items can be earned by completing challenges, those who want these rewards focus on challenges rather than play objectives, frustrating other players. Kind of messy.
That’s all about to change, explains Jerry Hook, head of design at 343 Industries Twitter“Starting Tuesday, the Shop experience will change weekly. We’re focusing on lowering pricing across the board, offering better value in bundles, starting to put individual items outside of bundles, and more.”
Hooker clarified further in his reply. When someone complains “If you have a way to earn points in the game, you don’t have to do all of that,” Hook said, “I think we need to do both.” In answer to that question, “Can you provide more information about information on new prices?” Hook said simply: “Down”.
These changes to the shop should roll out just ahead of the planned hotfix for Big Team Battle matchmaking. Complaints about the cosmetics being boring were somewhat alleviated last month when the cat ears were introduced, because who doesn’t want to look like a puma in a Halo game?
